Hollman, McKinlay wrap up Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur in Thornhill

Two local golfers competed in this past week’s 2022 Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship.

Taking place at The Thornhill Club in Thornhill, Ontario, the championship is for golfers 25 and over and has been around for several decades.

There were two central Alberta golfers competing at the tournament: Tim Hollman of Olds, and Bentley’s Bobby McKinlay.

For McKinlay, the week was over after two rounds, as the Lacombe Golf & Country Club member missed the cut.

McKinlay finished +17 (75-82), but had three birdies on his first 18, and then two more on day two. Unfortunately, he couldn’t keep up with a slew of bogies.

Hollman, a member at Olds Golf Club, finished at +19 (74-73-76-76) over four rounds, and in a tie for 51st.

His best round, a +3 73 on day two, saw him nail four birdies, but bogies also held him back from climbing the leaderboard.

The tournament winner was Charles Fitzsimmons of St. Thomas Golf & Country Club in London, who finished -5 (68-67-70-70), and had at least a share of the lead from the second round on.

The top finisher from Alberta was Barrett Jarosch of Windermere Golf and Country Club in Edmonton, who finished +4 and in 5th place.
