Blackfalds joins e-scooter trend, connecting three municipalities for first time

Aug 24, 2022 | 3:00 PM

Blackfalds is getting in on the e-scooter game.

E-scooters have become a growing trend in these parts, with Red Deer and Lacombe implementing programs over the last couple years.

In Blackfalds, which is statistically one of Canada’s fastest growing municipalities, a two-year pilot program will launch with Rill Technologies starting Aug. 26.

This after town council approved it at its meeting on Aug. 23.

“I am excited that Blackfalds is welcoming another business partner into our community. One that provides a new service which directly and indirectly contributes to the economy, and enhances enjoyment for residents and visitors alike,” said Mayor Jamie Hoover.

“With the addition of the Roll e-scooter service, we are enabling, for the very first time, three interconnected communities through a safe trail system by connecting Lacombe and Red Deer with Blackfalds being the central hub, offering an alternate mode of environmentally friendly transportation that is already enjoyed by so many.”

The trial will be at no cost to the Town of Blackfalds.

The Town notes that helmets can be ordered online via the Roll website, free of charge, and will be available at the Civic Cultural Centre during office hours in September.

Roll representatives will also be attending the Community Info Expo on September 7 at the Community Centre (6-8 p.m.).
