Charges have been laid against a Ponoka man following the seizure of a stolen sport side-by-side by Lacombe Police last week.

On July 21, 2022 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Lacombe Police Service (LPS) members located a stolen Polaris RZR in the parking lot of the English Estates Center located at 5830 Hwy 2A in Lacombe.

Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, which fled at a high rate of speed colliding with a Lacombe Police Service vehicle, causing minor damage to the Police vehicle. Police say they continued to follow the stolen Polaris until it became stuck in the area of Elizabeth Lake where the driver was taken into custody.

A 47-year-old suspect was charged with the following offences:

  • Disobeying order of the court
  • Resist arrest
  • Assault Peace Officer
  • Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle
  • Fail to stop or remain at accident scene
  • Flight from Police
  • Tampering with vehicle identification number
  • Possession of stolen property
  • Mischief to property

A number of violations under various Provincial Acts were also issued, says the LPS.

Police say the man charged was released on a recognizance with his next court date scheduled for August 16 in Red Deer provincial court.
