Red Deer golfers sweep U19 Championship

Logan Graf and Eileen Park earned sweet redemption at this week’s Alberta Golf U19 Championship, each winning their respective divisions.

The pair from Red Deer both lost playoffs at last year’s championship.

Park, who is just 13 and is a member at Red Deer Golf and Country Club, crushed the competition, winning by 12 strokes at the Cougar Creek Golf Resort.

Park shot rounds of 68-72-73, and was the only golfer under par. She was also the only golfer to shoot a sub-70 round

“It feels amazing because I couldn’t win it last year. My round one score was the best and that took me into a huge lead,” said the youngster to Alberta Golf.

Graf, meantime, was tied with two others going into the final 18, and won it in a playoff following an up and down round.

According to Alberta Golf, the first playoff hole saw Josiah Tong (71-75-70) and Graf (70-72-74) each reach the green.

Tong had a 30-footer that just missed while Graf nailed his 10-foot putt to claim the title. Graf’s brother Carter won this event in 2019 and was there to congratulate him.

“It’s amazing. I was in a playoff last year and couldn’t get it done, so to do it this year is pretty special. It’s a pretty cool feeling,” the Red Deer Golf and Country Club member told Alberta Golf about matching his brother’s feat. “This definitely opens some doors now; it’s a great stepping stone to college golf and beyond.”

Graf and Park each earned spots on Team Alberta for the upcoming nationals.
