Ponoka Aquaplex to host activities for National Drowning Prevention Week

The Ponoka Aquaplex will host a variety of activities in recognition of National Drowning Prevention Week from July 17 – 23.
According to Town officials, over 400 Canadians die in preventable water-related incidents every year. National Drowning Prevention Week is said to helps build skills and awareness about these incidents in an effort to prevent tragedies.
Activities planned at the Ponoka Aquaplex (5315 46 Avenue) include:
- A daily ‘Swim to Survive’ skills challenge from 1 to 4 p.m. each day from Monday to Friday. Participants who complete the challenge will receive a Canadian Swim to Survive Certificate.
- A Free Swim and Outdoor Community BBQ on Wednesday, July 20. The free swim will run from 1 to 5 p.m. along with games and activities in and out of the pool. The BBQ will run from 3 to 5 p.m. and will move indoors at the Aquaplex if it rains. The Aquaplex will be accepting food bank donations as admission to the free swim and BBQ.
- Throughout the week, families can learn about drowning prevention and participate in water safety activities.
