Central Alberta Pride Society announces Central Alberta Pride Week events

Jul 13, 2022 | 11:23 AM

Central Alberta Pride Society has released its Pride Week events schedule ahead of a series of exciting events happening around the area.

Central Alberta Pride Week, slated for Aug. 7-13, 2022, will feature activities happening in Red Deer, Sylvan Lake, Blackfalds, and Lacombe.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to be back with a full week of events for the entire community,” said Lenny Gallant, President, Central Alberta Pride Society. “The pandemic has been hard on everyone, especially LGBTQ2S+ serving organizations like ours. Getting folks together, being able to share experiences, and celebrate our diversity after the past two years is heartwarming.”

Capstone events include Pride in the Park, a family-friendly outdoor festival featuring market vendors, a variety of performances by Curtis LaBelle, Haus of Glitter drag show and more; as well as the closing of Pride Week – the Over the Rainbow Drag Show with RuPaul Drag Race All Star queen Farrah Moan, hosted by the living drag legend and international sensation, Lady Bunny held at the Cambridge Red Deer Hotel & Conference Centre’s Special Event Centre. Tickets for the Drag Show are on sale now.

Many often wonder why Central Alberta Pride Week is held in August, and Gallant says it’s about collaboration with other like-minded organizations in Alberta.

“Red Deer has held our Pride Week celebrations in August since our inception in 2013. With Calgary Pride holding events in early September, and Edmonton Pride holding events traditionally in June, we’re able to better support one another with a variety of events for LGBTQ2S+ all summer long.”
