The Mustard Seed’s Children & Youth Campaign investing in families in need

Jun 20, 2022 | 11:04 AM

June 20 marks the beginning of the Mustard Seed’s Children & Youth Campaign that focuses a proactive approach to support children and families in the cities the organization serves.

From June 20 – August 13, 2022, support from the community will go directly towards efforts and programming that prevents intergenerational poverty, say Mustard Seed officials.

By expanding and investing in services to include children, officials say they can impact the whole community, as supporting children and youth means supporting families and generations to come.

Using the social determinants of health, The Mustard Seed says they’ve identified areas of need in each community they serve and have created programming to strengthen those areas.

“We have seen a huge increase in the demand for our School Lunch Program in the last three months,” says Laura Giesbrecht, Director of Operations for The Mustard Seed in Red Deer. “Campaigns like this allow us to meet these new needs, and to not have to say no to any hungry children.”

Officials note The Mustard Seed School Lunch Program provides a nutritious lunch for 500+ children, in 46 schools, in six rural communities.

Thanks to one of the organization’s generous sponsors, Shaw Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink, officials say gifts in support of the Children & Youth Campaign will be matched up to 50 per cent until August 31.
