Trial date set for pair charged in Bashaw firearms related incident

A trial date has been set for two people charged after Mounties seized a loaded gun and ammunition near a residence in Bashaw this spring.

Jesse James Lyman Macdonald, 32, of no fixed address, and Jody Lill Sarasin, 30, of no fixed address, are scheduled for trial Sept. 13, 2022, in Stettler provincial court.

On March 22, 2022, Bashaw RCMP with the help of the Central Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit and Stettler RCMP arrested a man described as a repeat offender.

Jesse James Lyman Macdonald, according to Mounties, was wanted on multiple warrants.

Police say Macdonald was located behind a residence on 51 St in Bashaw interacting with a woman and a vehicle. As officers approached, Macdonald attempted to flee on foot, however, was quickly located and arrested.

The woman identified as Jody Lil Sarasin, was arrested for obstruction.

Incidental to arrest, RCMP conducted a search of a bag and a vehicle. As a result of the search, RCMP found a loaded hand gun and over 50 rounds of ammunition.

Macdonald was charged with two counts of careless use of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a prohibited firearm, and resist arrest.

Additionally, RCMP charged Sarasin with two counts of careless use of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a prohibited firearm, fail to comply with a release order, and possession of a controlled substance (cocaine).
