Preliminary hearing set for man accused in central Alberta shooting

May 3, 2022 | 4:54 PM

A man from Maskwacis accused of attempted murder two months ago is due to find out this summer if his case has enough evidence to go to trial.

Jesse Cabry, 29, is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing in Wetaskiwin provincial court on July 4, 2022.

Cabry is charged with attempted murder with a firearm and pointing a firearm in the March 2, 2022 incident.

That’s when Maskwacis RCMP responded at 2:30 a.m. to a shots fired complaint at the Samson Cree Nation town site.

Responding members located a 17-year-old male who had been shot. Mounties say the victim was rushed to hospital but was expected to recover from his injuries.

The suspect, meanwhile, was identified as 29-year-old Jesse Cabry of Maskwacis. Attempts to arrest Cabry resulted in the K Division Emergency Response Team being deployed to the area, but he was not initially located.

RCMP say Cabry was eventually arrested without incident on March 9 at a home on Ermineskin Cree Nation.
