Red Deer’s Green Cart returns to weekly collection

Mar 31, 2022 | 3:52 PM

Red Deer’s Green Carts will shift back to weekly collection starting April 4.

Green Carts are for organics such as kitchen scraps, yard waste and pet waste. From mid-November to early-April, they are picked up bi-weekly at the same time as Blue carts for recyclables. From early-April to mid-November, they are picked up every week, as seasonal yard waste increases.

“Seasonal changes in the Green Cart collection schedule supports the efficiency of the cart collection program, while still meeting the collection needs of cart customers,” The City said in a release.

Spring yard work often means additional organic material. The City reminds residents that if their Green Cart is full, extra yard waste can be set next to the full Green Cart for collection. The extra yard waste can be placed one metre away from any cart in a paper yard waste bag, loose in a garbage can or small branches can be bundled and tied with string.

The City also encourages residents to sign up for Cart Collection Alerts through Notify Red Deer for personalized reminders about which carts to set out each week. The notification system provides information about City operations and local emergencies, including COVID-19 impacts, parking restrictions, snow plowing, and more. Residents can sign up or add these alerts to their existing account at www.reddeer.ca/notifyreddeer.

Printable cart collection calendars are available online at www.reddeer.ca/carts.
