Didsbury RCMP lay charges in sexual assault investigation involving a child

A former Alberta teacher is facing sex-related charges in relation to an incident that allegedly occurred in Didsbury seven years ago.

On Dec. 22, 2021, Didsbury RCMP received a report of a sexual assault that had occurred in 2015 when the victim was attending elementary school in Didsbury. Mounties say the accused was working as a teacher at the time of the alleged offences.

As a result of the investigation, Harley Arthur Dickinson, 72, of Mountain View County, Alta., has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, and sexual exploitation.

Following a judicial hearing, police say Dickinson was released with several conditions including not to possess weapons, and not to be in any place that involves people under the age of 16.

Dickinson is scheduled to appear in Didsbury provincial court on Apr. 11, 2022.

As these matters are now before the courts, Mounties say no further details surrounding these charges can be provided.

Didsbury RCMP, however, are continuing their investigation and are asking the public to come forward with any similar type incidents. In the event an alias was used, Didsbury RCMP are distributing a photograph of Dickinson.

Harley Dickinson is described as 5’8” tall, 159 pounds, a light complexion with grey hair and some balding.
