The Lending Cupboard still trying to sell off extra stock

Feb 3, 2022 | 10:52 AM

We at The Lending Cupboard are sending out a quick reminder that we have stock onsite that is available for purchase to help folks who may need it for extended periods of time.

“Our mission is clear – and it will never change. It’s about enhancing the quality of people’s lives by providing them with medical equipment and daily living aids at no cost,” explained Dawna Morey, executive director of The Lending Cupboard. “But these are short-term loans.

“Some people have equipment right now that they need for the longer-term. They need to speak to us about that because some of those pieces of equipment may be available for purchase directly from us at a reduced rate,” she said.

Examples of items for sale run the gamut from bath stools ($29.50 including GST), bath transfer benches ($84 including GST) and various walkers/rollators ($36.75 including GST).

“Also, if they have bath benches, toilet seat risers or bed rails out on loan, they can call us and tell us about what their needs are so we can address those concerns while at the same time looking after our inventory,” she said.

Morey pointed out that for those agreeing to a loan, it’s important to return the equipment in a timely manner so others can benefit as well. This is particularly the case with respect to wheelchairs, she added.

“We can’t – as a registered charity – afford to continue to give out equipment that is going to stay out for extended periods at a time because there is always that constant demand to borrow it,” she said.

In the meantime, offering some pieces of equipment for sale also helps generate revenue, which in turn helps TLC with sustainability in these challenging times.

“As a registered charity, we depend on our donations and fundraising to generate revenue so that we can give out equipment freely for the short-term,” she said.

“But that is more of a struggle these days because of the challenges we face when it comes to being able to host fundraising events.”
