After a stormy winter’s night outside the Peavey Mart Centrium to start the week, it was the Prince Albert Raiders who came out with a 7-3 win over the Red Deer Rebels Monday evening.

The first period saw the Raiders strike first at 2:49 when Hayden Pakkala earned his sixth goal of the season by beating Rebels netminder Chase Coward to make it 1-0. Cale Sanders assisted on the play.

The Rebels responded soon afterwards though, when Liam Keeler scored his 12th of the season at 5:22, with Blake Gustafson and Kalan Lind getting the assists.

Prince Albert regained its lead when Reece Vitelli scored his 12th of the season as well at 6:20, thanks to an assist from Carson Latimer.

Just over a minute later, the Rebels Arshdeep Bains picked up his 18th goal of the season at 7:25, with assists going to Ben King and Jhett Larson to tie things back up at 2-2.

The score remained tied at two after 20 minutes, with Red Deer outshooting Prince Albert 10-9 in the opening period.

In the second, Prince Albert opened the scoring once again, when Sloan Stanick scored his 14th of the season at 1:42. Tayem Gislason and Evan Herman were credited with the assists.

Then a tripping penalty to the Rebels Arshdeep Bains led the Raiders to capitalize on their power play opportunity and widen their lead to 4-2. Remy Aquilon scored his third goal of the season at 6:07, assisted by Carson Latimer and Evan Herman for what turned out to be the eventual game winner.

A couple of minutes later, Prince Albert’s Trevor Thurston was given a five minute major for kneeing, leading to Red Deer’s Liam Keeler scoring his 13th of the season at 11:44, on the power play, assisted by Ben King and Arshdeep Bains to make it 4-3.

Prince Albert would have the man advantage again before the period’s end, however, after Christoffer Sedoff was given a five minute major for interference and a game misconduct at 13:43, with Kalan Lind serving the interference penalty.

It was the Raiders Landon Kosior who scored at 18:10, his ninth of the season, on the power play, assisted by Carson Latimer to make it 5-3.

Evan Herman then added another for the Raiders, on the power play, his 14th of the season at 18:39, and assisted by Landon Kosior.

Prince Albert led 6-3 after 40 minutes, but it was Red Deer who outshot the Raiders 12-9 in the second period.

Prince Albert capped off their evening with one last goal in the third period, when Red Deer’s-own Harrison Lodewyk scored his first ever WHL goal at 15:42 to make it a 7-3 final for the visitors. Vladislav Shilo assisted on the play.

The Raiders outshot the Rebels 8-7 in the third period, with Red Deer outshooting Prince Albert overall 29-26.

Prince Albert also had a successful evening on the power play, going 3/6 with the man advantage, while Red Deer went 1/3.

The Rebels Liam Keeler was named the game’s third star, while the Raiders Carson Latimer was named the game’s second star, and Prince Albert’s Landon Kosior the first star.

The loss drops the Rebels record to 23-11-2-1 with 49 points and second place in the WHL’s Central Division. Prince Albert, meanwhile, improves to 15-18-1-1, with 32 points and fifth place in the East Division.

Red Deer’s next action is Friday, Jan. 21, when they visit the Lethbridge Hurricanes for a 7:00 p.m. face-off.
