Red Deer with 1,002 active COVID-19 cases

Alberta Health is reporting 1,002 active cases of COVID-19 in Red Deer as of Jan. 9, up by 299 active cases from Jan. 6.

That brings the total number of coronavirus cases identified in the city since the start of the pandemic to 10,668 – up 352 from Jan. 6, while recoveries are up by 53 over the past three days to 9,582.

Red Deer’s active case rate is currently 941.8 per 100 k population. That compares to rates of 1,693.9 in Calgary, 1,438.4 in Edmonton, and 1,036.2 in Lethbridge.

The number of COVID-related deaths in Red Deer remains at 84, with the last one reported Dec. 7, 2021.

CENTRAL ZONE

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Central Zone is 3,204, up 899 from Jan. 6.

Hospitalizations in the Central Zone are currently at 82, up nine from Jan. 6, with eight of those patients receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, up two from Jan. 6.

Total virus-related deaths in Central Zone is 420.

Elsewhere throughout the province, there are 27,837 active cases of COVID-19 being reported in the Calgary Zone, 20,749 active cases in the Edmonton Zone, 2,357 in the North Zone, 2,328 in the South Zone, and 857 additional cases in unconfirmed locations.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

There were 17,577 new cases of COVID-19 announced in Alberta on Monday (6,161 on Jan. 7, 6,135 on Jan. 8, and 5,281 on Jan. 9). That brings the total number of active cases across the province now to 57,332 – up 13,918 over the past three days (Avg. 4,639.3 per day).

With 45,162 tests completed over the past three days, the province’s test positivity rate is roughly 38.9 per cent.

There are 7,290 active variant cases in the province, making up 12.7 per cent of all active cases.

635 Albertans are currently in hospital with COVID-19, up 131 over the past three days, with 72 of those patients in ICU, up eight from Jan. 6.

There have been six additional deaths reported to Alberta Health in the past three days, bringing the virus’ death toll in Alberta to 3,344.

VACCINATIONS

Alberta has delivered 7,900,731 vaccine doses as of Jan. 9, up 106,651 over the past three days.

Of the 5+ population, 84.8 per cent has received at least one dose (79.7% total population), while 77.9 per cent of the 5+ population has received two doses (73.2% total population). 27.7 per cent of the 5+ population has received three doses, (26.1% total population).

In Red Deer, 77,557 (77.2% eligible/72.8% total population) people have received at least one dose.

Meanwhile, 72,467 (72.1% eligible/68.0% total population) residents have two doses.
