Red Deer with 523 active cases of COVID-19

Alberta Health is reporting 523 active cases of COVID-19 in Red Deer as of Jan. 4, up by 63 active cases from the day before.

That brings the total number of coronavirus cases identified in the city since the start of the pandemic to 10,090 – up 70 from Jan. 3, while recoveries are up by seven over the past day to 9,483.

Red Deer’s active case rate is currently 491.6 per 100 k population. That compares to rates of 1,118.4 in Calgary, 960.5 in Edmonton, and 582.2 in Lethbridge.

The number of COVID-related deaths in Red Deer remains at 84, with the last one reported Dec. 7, 2021.

CENTRAL ZONE

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Central Zone is 1,781, up 179 from Jan. 3.

Hospitalizations in the Central Zone are currently at 76, up five from Jan. 3, with six of those patients receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, up one from the day before.

Total virus-related deaths in Central Zone is now 418, up one from Jan. 3.

Elsewhere throughout the province, there are 18,473 active cases of COVID-19 being reported in the Calgary Zone, 13,864 active cases in the Edmonton Zone, 1,295 in the South Zone, 1,288 in the North Zone, and 495 additional cases in unconfirmed locations.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

There were 4,752 new cases of COVID-19 announced in Alberta on Wednesday, bringing the total number of active cases across the province now to 37,196 – up 2,920 over the past day.

With 12,694 tests completed over the past 24 hours, the province’s test positivity rate is roughly 37.4 per cent.

There are 7,164 active variant cases in the province, making up 19.2 per cent of all active cases.

470 Albertans are currently in hospital with COVID-19, up 34 over the past day, with 72 of those patients in ICU, up 11 from Tuesday.

There have been 11 additional deaths reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours, bringing the virus’ death toll across the province to 3,333.

Alberta has delivered 7,764,479 vaccine doses as of Jan. 4, up 27,671 over the past day.

Of the 5+ population, 84.5 per cent has received at least one dose (79.4% total population), while 77.7 per cent of the 5+ population has received two doses (73.0% total population). 24.9 per cent of the 5+ population has received three doses, (23.4% total population).

In Red Deer, 77,264 (76.9% eligible/72.6% total population) people have received at least one dose, up 61 from Jan. 3.

Meanwhile, 72,233 (71.9% eligible/67.8% total population) residents have two doses, up 33 from Jan. 3.
