COVID numbers plateauing, Red Deer down slightly to 149 active cases

Red Deer now sits at 149 active cases of COVID-19, down two from Thursday. That’s the lowest active cases have been in the city since Aug. 20.

Meantime, the city’s total number of recorded cases is up 13 in the last day to 9,306, while recoveries are up 15 to 9,076.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 is 81, with the last one reported Nov. 16.

LOOK-BACK: On this day one year ago, there were 356 total cases of COVID-19 recorded in the city (+65 over the previous week), with 110 active cases (+18) and zero deaths.

The Central Zone as a whole has 840 active cases as of Friday, down 21 from Thursday. There are 106 hospitalizations, down five, with nine people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, the same as yesterday.

The Central Zone has had 387 deaths linked to COVID-19, with none reported today.

The zone’s one-day positivity rate for Nov. 18 is 7.77 per cent with 875 tests done.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, another 412 new cases of COVID-19 were announced Friday out of 8,673 tests.

That makes for a seven-day positivity rate of 4.82 per cent. Active cases across the province are down 91 to 5,293.

-38.42 per cent are completely vaccinated
-4.53 per cent are partially vaccinated
-57.04 per cent are unvaccinated

There are 496 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, down two, including 93 in intensive care, down one.

Of the 403 not in ICU, 262 are unvaccinated, 25 have one dose, and 103 have two doses. The other 13 have received a third dose.

Of the 93 in ICU, 70 are unvaccinated, four have one dose, and 15 have two doses. The remaining four have received a third dose.

The province’s death toll is now 3,211, meaning two more deaths have been reported since yesterday.

VACCINATIONS

As of Nov. 18, a total of 6,772,885 have been administered, up 10,073 over the last 24 hours

Across the province, 88.2 per cent of Alberta’s eligible 12+ population has received at least one dose (75.0% total population), and 82.8 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated (70.5% total population).

A total of 340,107 Albertans have now received a third dose, up 4,097.

In Red Deer, 73,692 (80.4% of eligible & 69.3% *total population) people have received at least one dose, up 53 in the last day.

Meanwhile, 69,679 (76.0%/65.5%) are fully vaccinated with two doses, up 100 over the last day. (*Government of Alberta uses a population of 106,395 for Red Deer; of those 91,672 are eligible)
