Decline in COVID numbers continues, but slowing

Red Deer now sits at 232 active cases of COVID-19, down six from Thursday.

Meantime, the city’s total number of recorded cases is up 15 in the last day to 9,135, while recoveries are up 21 to 8,826.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 is 77, with the last one reported Nov. 3.

LOOK-BACK: On this day one year ago, there were 225 total cases of COVID-19 recorded in the city (+40 over the previous week), with 63 active cases (+25) and zero deaths.

The Central Zone as a whole has 1,139 active cases as of Friday, down 37 from Thursday. There are 134 hospitalizations, down seven, with 13 people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, down three.

The Central Zone has had 368 deaths linked to COVID-19, with none reported today.

The zone’s one-day positivity rate for Nov. 4 is 5.29 per cent with 1,135 tests done. That’s the lowest one-day positivity rate for the zone since Aug. 14.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, another 466 new cases of COVID-19 were announced Friday out of 11,495 tests.

That makes for a seven-day positivity rate of 4.75 per cent. Active cases across the province are down 129 to 6,386.

-35.62 per cent are completely vaccinated
-5.83 per cent are partially vaccinated
-58.54 per cent are unvaccinated

There are 660 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, down 17, including 141 in intensive care, down five.

Of the 519 not in ICU, 330 are unvaccinated, 46 have one dose, and 150 have two doses.

Of the 141 in ICU, 115 are unvaccinated, eight have one dose, and 18 have two doses.

The province’s death toll is now 3,142, meaning five more deaths have been reported since yesterday.

VACCINATIONS

As of Nov. 4, a total of 6,606,404 have been administered, up 22,975 over the last 48 hours (data was not available yesterday). A total of 278,608 Albertans have now received a third dose, up from 257,477 a week ago.

Across the province, 87.3 per cent of Alberta’s eligible 12+ population has received at least one dose (74.3% total population), and 80.9 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated (68.8% total population).

In Red Deer, 72,907 (79.5% of eligible & 68.5% *total population) people have received at least one dose, up 99 in the last two days.

Meanwhile, 67,739 (73.9%/63.7%) are fully vaccinated with two doses, up 274 over two days. (*Government of Alberta uses a population of 106,395 for Red Deer; of those 91,672 are eligible)
