Canadian Finals Rodeo Returns to Red Deer

Nov 2, 2021 | 4:27 PM

Rodeo fans have now gathered in Red Deer this week to take in the country’s premiere rodeo event, the Canadian Finals Rodeo (CFR).

Officials note it’s been 24 months since fans last gathered to watch the CFR.

Organizers are inviting you to check out six exciting performances over five days (Nov 3-7) at Westerner Park in Red Deer that will determine Canada’s 2021 Canadian Professional Rodeo Champions.

In addition to the rodeo action, fans can take in popular returning events including nightly Cabarets, post-performance buckle presentations, a daily western lifestyle trade show, Ladies of Canadian Pro Rodeo Fashion Show, Contestant autograph sessions and Hot Stove Lounge, the Miss Rodeo Canada competition and more.

Trevor Thomas, Director of Development at Westerner Park, says the organization is really excited the event is taking place this year.

“It’s been a long time since we’ve had an event of this scale on our grounds,” he points out. “It’s been a lot of work, it’s been a lot of prep, there’s been tons of ups and downs, but tickets are going very well and the arena has undergone an amazing transformation. We’re pumped!”

Unless you’ve been to a recent Rebels game, Thomas says fans will also notice significant upgrades to the Peavey Mart Centrium.

“The changes are outstanding. It looks very modern. The screens that are brought in and the actual technology to put the performance on is second to none. It’s going to be a Vegas-style show that’s going to happen,” suggests Thomas.

He further acknowledges the much-welcomed economic impact CFR47 will bring to the community.

“What we’ve found in the past is about half the people that come to CFR are outside Red Deer, Red Deer County,” explains Thomas. “So many of these people are staying overnight, they’re going out to eat. The economic impact should give us a huge boost for hotels, food industry and retail industry at a time where we can really use it.”

“Normally in a CFR year, it’s well over a million dollars, so we’re thinking that we’ll match that this year,” adds Thomas.
