Province reaches 80% vaccination rate in eligible population

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

New COVID-19 case numbers are once again lower over the weekend.

Over the past three days, Alberta Health confirmed a combined 1,210 new cases, with 533 on Friday, 335 on Saturday, and 342 on Sunday.

There are now 7,580 active cases, down 578 from Friday.

An average of 8,119 tests were conducted each day over the past three days. The seven-day positivity rate is currently 5.46 per cent, down from 6.41 a week ago.

Provincially, 689 patients are currently hospitalized with COVID, down 76 over the weekend, and down 132 from a week ago. Today’s new total includes 157 patients in ICU, down 22, and down from 182 a week ago.

Of the 532 people hospitalized but not in ICU, 342 are completely unvaccinated, 38 have received one dose, and 152 have two doses.

Of the 157 in ICU, 132 are completely unvaccinated, six have one dose, and 19 have two doses.

Since Friday’s update, there has sadly been 18 new deaths added to the provincial COVID-19 death toll, which stands at 3,111.

CENTRAL ZONE

Over the weekend, Red Deer added 55 cases, 102 recoveries and zero fatalities.

That leaves Red Deer with 293 (388) active cases, down (net) 47 from Friday, and down from 388 last Monday.

On Sept. 27, Red Deer hit a new record of 915, breaking its previous record of 911 set May 8, 2021 at the height of the third wave.

Red Deer has now recorded 9,073 total cases, 8,704 recoveries and 76 deaths.

Red Deer’s active case rate is currently 275.4 per 100,000 people, compared to 92.3 for City of Calgary and 102.0 for City of Edmonton.

The entire Central Zone has 1,457 active cases as of Monday, down 178 from Friday. There are 142 hospitalizations, down 20, and 16 people are receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, down two from Friday.

The zone has had 362 deaths linked to the virus, with four reported over the weekend.

Central Zone’s one-day high for positivity rate over the weekend was 11,99 per cent with 659 tests conducted on Oct. 31.

VACCINATIONS

In Alberta, 6,559,777 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have now been administered as of the end of Oct. 31. That’s up 31,644 over the weekend.

Of the 12+ population, 87.1 per cent has received at least one dose (74.1% total population), while 80.3 per cent* of the 12+ population is now fully vaccinated (68.3% total population).

*Alberta Health remarked on Monday about the province reaching 80 per cent of the eligible population being fully vaccinated.

“We are committed to ensuring as many Albertans as possible get vaccinated as soon as possible. That’s why clinics and pharmacies across the province continue to offer vaccinations with little to no wait,” Health Minister Jason Copping said Monday.

“If you haven’t already done so, now is the time to get vaccinated. If you have concerns, speak to a trusted health-care professional and get the information you need to make an informed decision.”

Since Sept. 15, the province also shared, about 264,000 Albertans have received a first dose of vaccine and 293,000 have received a second dose. A total of 264,511 Albertans have received a third dose.

In Red Deer, 72,669 (79.3% eligible/68.3% total) people have received at least one dose, up 171 over the last three days.

Meanwhile, 67,156 residents (73.3%/63.1%) are fully vaccinated, up 483. (*Government of Alberta uses a population of 106,395 for Red Deer; of those 91,672 are eligible)

INFLUENZA

Alberta Health is reporting three total lab-confirmed cases of influenza — one in Calgary Zone and two in Edmonton Zone. They are all Influenza A.

A total of 289,990 doses of influenza vaccine have been administered this season.
