No Parole Eligibility For 13 Years

Life sentence for Sylvan Lake man convicted of killing father

Nov 1, 2021 | 1:05 PM

A Sylvan Lake man convicted of second-degree murder in the death of his father two years ago has been sentenced to life in prison with no parole eligibility for 13 years.

At the conclusion of his trial in Wetaskiwin last week, Patrick William Freeman, 30, was also given a 10-year firearms prohibition following any release from prison.

Freeman was initially charged with first-degree murder in the June 24, 2019 death of his father, Patrick Alexander Freeman, who was 52.

RCMP responded at about 4 p.m. that day to a complaint in Lacombe County. Upon arrival, officers found the elder Freeman suffering from “significant injuries.” He was airlifted by STARS to a Calgary hospital but later died.
