Blackfalds council sworn in: one elected councillor not present

Nov 1, 2021 | 5:08 PM

Newly elected Blackfalds mayor Jamie Hoover, along with councillors Marina Appel, Brenda Dennis, Jim Sands, Rebecca Stendie, and Laura Svab were all sworn in for the 2021 – 2025 term last week. However, Amanda Valin was not in attendance.

“The swearing-in of our new council sets in motion a new term of municipal government,” said Chief Administrative Officer Myron Thompson, in a press release. “I look forward to working with this council, building positive working relationships with a shared desire for a municipality that is strong, safe, and viable.”

The ceremony included the newly elected officials swearing an Oath of Office administered by RCMP Staff Sergeant Dan Martin.

Mayor Jamie Hoover expressed his anticipation for the new position and the upcoming term.

“I am excited and proud to have the opportunity to lead this passionate and diverse group of councillors, some of which have extensive experience as former council members, and those who will bring their unique and fresh insights to the team. I look forward to learning and working with all of them and serving our great residents together!”

During the meeting, council made appointments of council members to Blackfalds municipal boards and set the schedule for council meetings for the next year (see attachment).
