Red Deer RCMP ticketed a driver for extreme speeding earlier this month.

It was around noon on Oct. 5 when police say a traffic unit member clocked a 2007 Chrysler Sebring going 128 km/h in a 70 km/h zone.

The vehicle was travelling eastbound on 19 Street, approaching 30 Avenue.

The 17-year-old driver was given a mandatory court date, scheduled for Nov. 8. Due to the driver’s age, a notice to parents was also served.

“Driving at such a high rate of speed in the city is very dangerous. Not only is it a costly offence, but it also puts the safety of all road users – motorist and pedestrians – at risk, and can have lasting, life-altering effects,” says Sgt. Mike Zufferli, Red Deer RCMP.

Police say the driver may face a licence suspension, pending a court decision.
