38 more COVID-linked deaths reported in last day

Starting with provincial numbers today, where sadly, 38 more people have been reported dead in the last day due to COVID-19.

That brings the provincial death toll is now 2,901, up 71 in the last two days, and 97 in the last week.

The active caseload is now 14,218, down 1,077. This with the province adding 652 cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. The province also did 8,620 tests in the last day, with a seven-day positivity rate of 8.36 per cent.

Hospitalizations

There are 1,027 people in hospital, down 26 in one day, and ICU admissions are down six to 236.

Of the 791 not in ICU, 499 are unvaccinated, 72 have had one dose, and 220 have had two doses.

Of the 236 in ICU, 199 are unvaccinated, 14 have had one dose, and 23 have had two doses.

CENTRAL ZONE

Red Deer now has 619 active cases of COVID-19, down 44 from Tuesday.

Red Deer hit a new peak of 915 on Sept. 27, topping its previous high of 911 on May 8 at the height of the third wave.

Meantime, recoveries in Red Deer rose 70 to 7,917 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose by 27 in the last day to 8,605.

The city’s rate of active cases per 100,000 people is 581.8, compared to the city of Calgary at 173.7 and the city of Edmonton at 189.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 is 69, with one reported today.

The Central Zone as a whole has 2,908 active cases as of Wednesday, down 272 in the last day. That’s compared to 3,594 in Calgary Zone and 3,281 in Edmonton Zone.

There are 187 hospitalizations in our zone, down six, and 15 people are receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, down five.

Central Zone has recorded 308 deaths, including 11 in the last day.

The zone’s one-day positivity rate for Oct. 12 is 12.33 per cent, with 876 tests done.

To contrast, Calgary Zone’s positivity rate for Oct. 12 was 5.38 per cent, Edmonton Zone was 4.76 per cent, North Zone was 26.02 per cent (lowest immunization rate), and South Zone was 16.18 per cent.

VACCINATIONS

Alberta has delivered 6,259,239 vaccine doses as of Oct. 12, up 20,565 in the last day.

85.5 per cent of Alberta’s eligible 12+ population has received at least one dose (72.7% total population), and 76.2 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated (64.9% total population).

In Red Deer, 71,044 (77.5% of eligible & 66.8% *total population) people have received at least one dose, up 142. Meanwhile, 62,915 (68.6%/59.1%) are fully vaccinated with two doses, up 228. (*Government of Alberta uses a population of 106,395 for Red Deer; of those 91,672 are eligible)
