Alberta adds 16 more COVID-linked deaths

Red Deer now sits at 797 active cases of COVID-19, up 10 from Thursday.

Meantime, the city’s total number of recorded cases is up 74 to 8,430 over the last day, while recoveries are up 64 to 7,565.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 68 with the last one reported Oct. 7.

LOOK-BACK: On this day one year ago, there were 115 total cases of COVID-19 recorded in the city (+5 over the previous week), with seven active cases (+2) and zero deaths.

The Central Zone as a whole has 3,690 active cases as of Friday, down 68 from Thursday. There are 208 hospitalizations, down five, with 22 people receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, down one.

The Central Zone has had 292 deaths linked to COVID-19, with three reported today.

The zone’s one-day positivity rate for Oct. 7 is 15.02 per cent with 1,951 tests done.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Across Alberta, another 1,256 new cases of COVID-19 were announced Friday out of 14,736 tests.

That makes for a seven-day positivity rate of 9.38 per cent. Active cases across the province are down 572 to 17,839.

There are 1,101 Albertans hospitalized due to the virus, up seven, including 250 in intensive care, up two.

Of the 851 not in ICU, 545 are unvaccinated, 74 have one dose, and 232 have two doses.

Of the 250 in ICU, 206 are unvaccinated, 15 have one dose, and 29 have two doses.

The province’s death toll is now listed as 2,830, which means 16 more deaths have been reported since yesterday. A week ago, the provincial death toll was 2,731, a difference of 99.

VACCINATIONS

Across the province, 84.9 per cent of Alberta’s eligible 12+ population has received at least one dose (72.2% total population), and 75.5 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated (64.2% total population).

A total of 6,192,093 doses have been administered, up 18,776 in the last 24 hours.

In Red Deer, 70,485 (76.9% of eligible & 66.2% *total population) people have received at least one dose, up 148 in the last day.

Meanwhile, 62,124 (67.8%/58.4%) are fully vaccinated with two doses, up 160 inone day. (*Government of Alberta uses a population of 106,395 for Red Deer; of those 91,672 are eligible)
