Red Deer RCMP investigate online threat
Thankfully no one was hurt following a Red Deer RCMP investigation into reports of an online threat made against Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School over a social media app Monday night.
The investigation began Oct. 4, at approximately 10:00 p.m., when local Mounties received numerous reports of the alleged online threat.
Red Deer RCMP investigated and after speaking with witnesses, quickly located the individual who had posted the concerning comment. After speaking with the individual, police say the threat was determined to not be credible. The attending member educated the youth and their family about the seriousness of the situation and the repercussions of making threats online.
“We want to reiterate how dangerous these types of threats are, even if they’re meant as a joke,” said Cpl. Mike Evans, Red Deer RCMP Community Policing, in a press release. “We take them very seriously and investigate thoroughly as they can have a very negative impact to our community’s feeling of safety and mental wellbeing.”
