Alberta adds 34 to provincial COVID death toll in one day

Red Deer now has 832 active cases of COVID-19, down 29 from Tuesday.

Red Deer hit a new peak of 915 on Sept. 27, topping its previous high of 911 on May 8 at the height of the third wave. It went back below 900 yesterday.

Meantime, recoveries in Red Deer rose 91 to 7,015 as the total number of COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer rose by 63 in the last day to 7,908.

The city’s rate of active cases per 100,000 people is 782, compared to the city of Calgary at 257.5 and the city of Edmonton at 300.9.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 is now 61, with one reported today.

VACCINATIONS

Alberta has delivered 6,049,067 vaccine doses as of Sept. 28, up 17,359in the last day.

83.4 per cent of Alberta’s eligible 12+ population has received at least one dose (71.0% total population), and 74.2 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated (63.1% total population).

In Red Deer, 69,084 (75.4% of eligible & 64.9% *total population) people have received at least one dose, up 217. Meanwhile, 60,960 (66.5%/57.3%) are fully vaccinated with two doses, up 119. (*Government of Alberta uses a population of 106,395 for Red Deer; of those 91,672 are eligible)

The Central Zone as a whole has 4,061 active cases as of Wednesday, down 58 in the last day.

There are 174 hospitalizations, down 12 , and 21 people are receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, the same as yesterday.

Central Zone has recorded 261 deaths, including 12 in the last day.

The zone’s one-day positivity rate for Sept. 28 is 20.79 per cent, with 1,640 tests done.

To contrast, Calgary Zone’s positivity rate for Sept. 21 was 7.23 per cent, Edmonton Zone was 8.38, North Zone was 24.95 per cent (lowest immunization rate), and South Zone was 15.94 per cent.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

The active caseload is now 20,306, down 207. This with the province adding 1,682 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. The province also did 15,025 more tests in the last day.

There are 1,084 people in hospital, down 16 in one day, and ICU admissions are up five to 268.

Of the 816 not in ICU, 538 are unvaccinated, 68 have had one dose, and 210 have two doses.

Of the 268 in ICU, 232 are unvaccinated, nine have had one dose, and 27 have had two doses.

Sadly, 34 new deaths linked to COVID-19 were reported in the past day, meaning the provincial death toll is now 2,697.
