Red Deer Polytechnic joins other post-secondaries requiring COVID-19 vaccine

Sep 17, 2021 | 4:18 PM

As Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) continues to safely deliver courses and services during the COVID-19 pandemic, the institution has identified a path forward for the Fall 2021 Term in adherence with the Government of Alberta’s current enhanced public health measures.

In addition, RDP will implement a vaccine requirement program, with preliminary information provided below.

Starting Monday, Sept. 20, with a goal to create as consistent of an experience as possible for students for the remainder of this term, the following details have been identified:

Academic Delivery

• Online, blended and hy-flex class delivery will continue as outlined in the Fall 2021 Timetable

• All in-person classes, labs, shops and seminars will return to in-person delivery starting Monday, September 20.

Service Delivery (same details as provided Thursday, Sept. 16)

• Services will continue to be offered through a blend of in-person and online delivery, with the goal of continuing to provide appropriate services to students, faculty and staff on RDP campuses

All RDP COVID-19 protocols will remain in place, including face coverings required within all indoor spaces on campuses, physical distancing measures, use of a daily SAFE RDC COVID-19 check-in app, illness reporting, good hygiene and more.

“I am consistently impressed by Red Deer Polytechnic faculty and staff. The individual and collective efforts to tirelessly support our learners in an ever-changing teaching and learning environment is remarkable,” says Kylie Thomas, Vice President Academic and Research, in a press release.

“We recognize the strain that adapting to the COVID-19 pandemic presents to our learners and we sincerely appreciate their cooperation and patience as our Polytechnic community strives to deliver a consistent and quality learning experience during these fluid circumstances. Together, our campus community continues to demonstrate resilience as we come together to maintain a dynamic and safe environment for everyone.”

Red Deer Polytechnic Vaccine Requirement Program

RDP will implement vaccination requirements for students and employees at the institution. This is said to align with other post-secondary institutions in Alberta, as well as with the government’s announcement of a provincial Restriction Exemption Program.

Full details regarding the vaccination program at Red Deer Polytechnic will be announced on September 27. This program is anticipated to take time to implement as members of their respective campus community complete vaccinations and as their institution formulates logistical details relating to proof of vaccination.

  • RDP strongly encourage anyone who has not yet received a COVID-19 vaccination, to proceed with doing so. You may visit the FAQ page on the AHS website or book a vaccination appointment.
  • Given their preliminary planning, individuals should receive at least their first dose of vaccine no later than Oct. 13. Details are being worked on regarding specific exemptions that may apply for students and employees. This includes the option (Fall 2021 Term) for individuals to complete and show proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR or rapid test before attending classes or work in person. As per the government’s Restriction Exemption Program, tests must be privately-paid

RDP officials say the institution will continue to adapt operations, as needed, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. For more information, visit rdc.ab.ca/covid.
