Replacing Blackfalds Connect App

Town of Blackfalds unveils new citizen request portal

Officials with the Town of Blackfalds have announced what they describe as a simple, streamlined program where you can provide non-emergency concerns, issues, or provide general feedback.

As of Aug. 30, 2021, the Blackfalds Connect App (powered by SeeClickFix) has been replaced with the new Citizen Request Portal.

Laura Thevenaz, Infrastructure Services Manager for the Town of Blackfalds, says they are excited to be able to bring this new issue reporting system, the Citizen Request Portal, to their residents.

“This new service request portal integrates with our new asset management and work order software program, PSD Citywide, allowing for increased operational efficiencies, as well as advancing the Town’s goal of sustainably managing our assets in the long-term.”

While SeeClickFix created a much-needed bridge between residents and Town staff, the program was somewhat flawed, giving way to privacy concerns and inaccurate location submissions. With the new system, complaints are submitted privately through the system to a specific department for their team to organize, prioritize, and disseminate. Persons submitting the complaint can choose whether they would like to have direct follow-up on the issue, or not.

“Council is excited about how this new tool will complement our new website,” stated Mayor Richard Poole. “We look forward to our residents finding new and more comprehensive ways to interact with Town staff and the opportunity it will give your elected representatives to monitor and react to concerns being identified.”

Unlike Blackfalds Connect, the Citizen Request Portal does not provide a way to report bylaw concerns. The public is asked to continue to report any bylaw issues through the Protective Services’ Report Exec Complaint Form.

“While we always strive to be proactive with concerns in the community, we encourage our residents to submit any concerns through the new Portal when they do find an issue,” Thevenaz added.
