Members of Red Deer’s Indigenous community are hosting a special event later this month as part of Alberta Culture Days.

Urban Aboriginal Voices Society (UAVS) and partners welcome the community to a family fun day featuring a variety of Indigenous activities.

There will be a tipi and trappers encampment, family dance with the Country Pride Dance Club, plus an art display, dance workshops, agency booths, and a Metis food truck.

The on-site Indigenous Emerging Artists display will remain open to the public in the Viewpoint Gallery from now through Oct. 29.

The upcoming event runs from 1-5 p.m. on Sept. 19 behind Central Middle School and at the nearby Gary W. Harris Celebration Plaza (5205 48 Avenue).

Red Deer sits on the traditional territory of the Blackfoot Confederacy and the Cree First Nations, as well as the historical homeland of the Metis.

Alberta Culture Days runs all of September, with more than 100 events happening across the province.
