Lacombe’s Cilantro and Chive location is celebrating another successful Burger of the Month (BOTM) promotion.

In August, they managed to raise $1,612 for the Rocky Mountain House Search and Rescue Society (SAR).

Guest Chef for the month of August was local chicken and turkey farmer Michelle Swanson, with $2 from every one of her “Rocky Mountain Chicken Burger” sales going towards Rocky SAR.

As more and more Albertans head outdoors and out west towards the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains, Swanson says she wanted to support an organization committed to seeing visitors enjoy the outdoors safely and responsibly.

“As a non-profit organization, SAR relies on donations for specialized training of their volunteers such as Mountain and High Angle Rescues. Their “Adventure Smart” programs help educate all ages from ‘how to plan a trip’ to ‘what to do’ if they become lost. Rocky SAR and I want everyone to have a safe stay while experiencing the great outdoors in Clearwater County”.

Rocky SAR is a 100 per cent volunteer organization with members who are highly skilled, highly trained individuals equipped to respond to a number of emergency scenarios; ground search and rescue, mountain rescue, rope rescue, swift water and flood rescue, ice rescue, avalanche rescue and more.

They rely on donations and fundraisers to fund their search and rescue and educational efforts.

So far to date, Lacombe Cilantro and Chive has donated over $85,000 in the last 55 months thanks to their BOTM promotion.

The September Burger of the Month in Lacombe is “The Vice” created in collaboration with local Guest Chef Craig Fullarton. It includes an Alberta smash patty, boneless short rib, jalapeno jack cheese, queso cheese sauce, deep fried Cheeto breaded jalapenos, shaved onion, mixed peppers, beefsteak tomatoes, mixed greens, on a Cheeto dusted brioche bun.

$2 from every burger sold will go directly towards Craig’s charity of choice – Aspire Special Needs Resource Centre.
