100 of 129 people hospitalized provincially completely unvaccinated

Red Deer has 60 active cases of COVID-19, up 13 from Friday’s update.

Recoveries are listed at 5,757, up four, as Red Deer added 17 new COVID cases over the last three days for a total of 5,860.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 43, with the last one reported July 6.

The entire Central Zone has 211 active cases as of Monday, up 51 from Friday. There are 13 hospitalizations, up one, and three people are receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, up two.

The zone has had 171 deaths linked to the virus, with none reported today.

The zone’s seven-day testing positivity rate is currently 4.78 per cent, with a one-day rate of 7.01 per cent on Aug. 6, the highest since June 7.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

Over the past three days, AHS confirmed a combined 1,017 new cases, with 398 on Friday, 375 on Saturday, and 244 on Sunday.

Last Tuesday, the province announced 743 new cases over the July 30-Aug. 2 (four days) long weekend.

There are now 3,380 active cases, up 661 from Friday’s total of 2,719. That’s also up from 2,176 last Tuesday.

Of the 3,380 currently active cases, 2,573 are variants of concern.

An average of 6,659 tests were conducted each day over the past three days. The seven-day positivity rate is currently 4.69 per cent.

Provincially, 129 patients are currently hospitalized, up 16 over the weekend, including 26 who have been admitted to intensive care, up one. Last Tuesday, there were 90 in hospital and 23 in ICU.

Of the 129 people in hospital provincewide, there are currently 77 people in hospital (not in ICU) and 23 more people in ICU, who are completely unvaccinated.

Since Friday’s update, there have been three new deaths added to the provincial COVID-19 death toll, which stands at 2,328.

VACCINATIONS

In Alberta, 5,390,219 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have now been administered as of the end of Aug. 8. That’s up 24,612 over the weekend, or an average of 6,153 daily.

Of the 12+ population, 76.4 (+0.2) per cent has received at least one dose (65.0% total population), while 66.9 (+0.5) per cent of the 12+ population is now fully vaccinated (56.9% total population).

In Red Deer, 61,623 (67.2% eligible/57.9% total) people have received at least one dose, up 113 over the last three days. Meanwhile, 54,433 residents (59.4%/51.2%) are fully vaccinated, up 387.
