Single vehicle crash kills teen in Bighorn Country

One person has died following a single vehicle crash in Bighorn Country.

RCMP say the Sundre detachment received an SOS signal from a GPS device on Hwy 734., at about 12:46 p.m. on July 17.

Sundre RCMP, along with Cremona Fire and EMS responded.

Preliminary investigation has determined that a pick-up truck was travelling southbound on Hwy 734 navigating a downhill section of roadway when it lost control.

The truck is said to have then struck an embankment and rolled.

A 17-year-old passenger was declared deceased on scene. Both the 18-year-old driver and another 18-year-old passenger were taken to hospital and released shortly thereafter.

Alcohol, drugs or speed are not believed to be factors in the incident, police say. The name of the deceased will not be released and no further updates are anticipated.
