Red Deer down to 15 active COVID cases

There are now 15 active cases of coronavirus in Red Deer, down two from Monday.

According to the latest update from Alberta Health, recoveries now total 5,723 – up two from Monday, while the number of cases attributed to the community since the start of the pandemic held steady at 5,781.

Red Deer’s death toll stemming from COVID-19 remains 43, with the last one reported July 6.

The entire Central Zone has 47 active cases as of Tuesday, down 12 from Monday. There are seven hospitalizations, up one from Monday and one person receiving intensive care at Red Deer Regional Hospital, also the same as Monday. The zone has had 170 deaths linked to the virus, with none reported today.

PROVINCIAL NUMBERS

35 new cases of COVID- 19 were confirmed on July 12, bringing the total number of active cases in the province now to 599, down 25 from the day before. With 4,991 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, the test positivity rate is roughly 0.1 per cent.

14 new variant cases have also been identified, bringing the total number of active variant cases in the province to 351 or 58.6 per cent of all active cases.

There are 112 Albertans currently in hospital with COVID-19, the same as Monday, with 33 of those patients in ICU, down one from Monday.

Sadly, three new deaths were also reported today, bringing the virus’ death toll in our province to 2,310.

Throughout Alberta, there are 298 active cases of COVID-19 in the Calgary Zone, 119 in the Edmonton Zone, 110 in the North Zone, 24 in the South Zone, and one additional case in an unconfirmed location.

4,894,909 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta as of the end of July 12. 74.2 per cent of the 12+ population has received at least one dose (63.1% total population), while 55.9 per cent of the 12+ population is now fully vaccinated (47.5% total population).
