Red Deer building permits way up in June 2021

Building permit values for Red Deer last month are sky-high compared to a year ago.

There were 167 approved permits in June 2021, compared to 108 in June 2020, with the total value at over $27.5 million, in contrast to $7.7 million 12 months ago.

Commercial permits went from 19 worth $2.97 million in June 2020 to 57 worth $20.88 this year.

But there’s still catching up to do in terms of year-to-date.

From January to June 2020, permits totaled 384 and were worth $97 million, while this year there have been 603 worth $69.5 million.

Notable permits for June 2021 include:

  • 3,849 m2 commercial building and warehouse with 3,512 m2 outdoor storage area at 2810 50 Avenue, valued at $3.9 million
  • Two-bay automated car wash at 60 Calder Street, valued at $2.75 million
  • Tenant improvements at 4311 54 Avenue, valued at $2 million
  • 10-unit multi-family residential building at 4506 47A Avenue, valued at $1.9 million
  • Convenience store and gas bar at 7414 50 Avenue, valued at $1.56 million
