Expanding Vaccine Efforts

First-dose walk-in clinic open for youth born between 2004 and 2009

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is now offering first dose walk-in clinics for Albertans born between 2004 and 2009.

Starting July 2, youth born in those years can receive their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine without an appointment at the Westerner Exhibition Hall, 4847A 19 St. Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Officials encourage all Albertans born from 2004 to 2009 to protect themselves and others by being vaccinated as soon as possible. You’re reminded to bring your Alberta Health Care card if you have one, along with photo ID. You will also be required to wear a face mask and use hand sanitizer when visiting the site for your immunization.

While it is preferred verbal parental consent be provided in person at the immunization appointment, if a parent or guardian is unable to attend the appointment, youth need to bring a signed consent form which can be downloaded from the AHS website: Consent for COVID-19 Immunization (albertahealthservices.ca)

In circumstances where a minor does not have a signed consent form but is deemed mature by the attending immunizer, parental consent may not be required.

Providing immunization for a mature minor and the assessment leading to this decision by the attending immunizer will be done on a case by case basis, according to officials.

“Please do your part in helping keep our communities as safe as possible. It is vitally important for all of us to remain vigilant in the fight against COVID-19 and to follow public health guidelines at all times. This includes maintaining physical distancing and masking,” reads an AHS press release.

If you are experiencing symptoms, stay home and arrange for COVID-19 testing through AHS.ca or by calling 811.
