Lacombe County launches Environmental Stewardship Award

Jun 30, 2021 | 1:42 PM

Lacombe County has launched a new award designed to recognize a resident who practices environmental conservation and sustainability on their property.

Any member of the public can nominate an individual for the Environmental Stewardship Award.

County officials say a committee will select the successful recipient, with the nomination period running from July 1, 2021 to August 31, 2021.

Applications are requested to be submitted in person or by email to jberry@lacombecounty.com. The winner will be selected by a judging panel and will receive a one-time cash prize of $1,500.

  • The nominee must be a resident and practicing environmental stewardship within Lacombe County
  • Can only be a recipient of the award once
  • Nomination forms need to be submitted before August 31, 2021

Officials say Lacombe County is committed to supporting its resident’s understanding of environmental sustainability and aiding them in making decisions that consider their relationships to natural systems, communities, and future generations.

Earlier this year, Lacombe County implemented the Environmental Community Engagement Program, which replaced the Environmental Improvement Grant program.

The Environmental Community Engagement Program will run for three years and comprises three components: a wetland education program, an environmental stewardship award, and a resident environmental sustainability program.
