An investigation is underway into the cause of a four-vehicle crash that killed a motorcyclist in Mountain View County over the weekend.

It happened on June 27, at approximately 9:30 p.m., when Didsbury RCMP received a 911 call of a serious multi vehicle collision on Highway 22 near Range Road 43 in Mountain View County.

Didsbury RCMP attended, with Emergency Medical Services and Fire Services already on scene when they arrived.

A 43-year-old male motorcyclist from Mountain View County was pronounced deceased at the scene. The name of the deceased, however, will not be released. Another motorcyclist, an adult female operating a second motorcycle, suffered non-life threatening injuries that were treated in hospital.

The occupants of an SUV, an adult female driver, suffered minor injuries that were treated on scene, while the SUV passenger was uninjured.

Mounties say the 25-year-old female driver and lone occupant of a pick-up truck involved in the collision, from Mountain View County, was located and arrested by police for impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death. However, due to her injuries, she was taken to hospital for treatment.

Didsbury RCMP’s preliminary investigation indicates a pick-up truck was heading southbound on Highway 22 and attempted to overtake a van but lost control, striking an SUV travelling northbound. The pick-up truck then rolled several times into the oncoming northbound lane of traffic, colliding with two motorcycles that were traveling northbound.

Didsbury RCMP are investigating the cause of this fatality along with the assistance of the RCMP Collision Reconstructionist.

Police say further updates will be provided when additional information is available.
