Red Deer RCMP have made a significant drug seizure in the city leading to charges against four people.

On May 21 on the heels of a months-long drug trafficking investigation, Mounties executed a search warrant at a home in Riverside Meadows where a large amount of illicit drugs, weapons and stolen property was discovered.

Police seized 475 grams of marijuana along with 27 grams of cocaine, 29 grams of DMT, five grams of fentanyl, 167 grams of MDMA, 773 grams of crystal meth, 1979 grams of psilocybin (magic mushrooms), and 19 litres of GHB.

“It’s a very large seizure for a community our size. There is a potential for this to be equal to nearly 20,000 doses,” Red Deer RCMP Insp. Mark Groves said of the GHB.

Also seized was a prohibited semi-automatic shotgun and over $20,000 in Canadian currency.

A stolen 2020 Can Am Outlander quad and a stolen Konker motorcycle were also turned up on the property.

Anthony White, 41, and Stephanie Johnson, 37, of Red Deer, each face eight charges:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (x5)
  • Possession of property over $5000 (x2)
  • Possession of stolen property

Richard Dryborough-Browes, 51, and Keira Hopkins, 22, of Red Deer each face five charges:

· Possession for the purpose of trafficking (x3)

· Careless use/storage of a firearm

· Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition

All four are to appear in Red Deer provincial court on July 15.

“Red Deer is not the source city (for these drugs) so we’re always striving to find out where the initial drugs came from and if organized crime is involved,” said Groves, who noted gangs were not involved in this particular drug trafficking activity.

“Seizures of this nature exemplify how our crime reduction strategy is being achieved. Through dedicated police investigations and intelligence analysis, we were able to focus in on criminal activity that poses the greatest risk to the community,” said Red Deer RCMP Supt. Gerald Grobmeier.
