Criminal investigation underway into explosion at Rosedale duplex

Red Deer RCMP confirm that a criminal investigation is underway into a house explosion in the city’s east end over the weekend.

A police spokesperson offered no further details, only telling rdnewsNOW that the investigation is in its very early stages.

It was at 12:45 a.m. Saturday, June 12 when the explosion happened at a duplex unit on Rupert Crescent in Rosedale.

Red Deer Emergency Services Deputy Chief Chris Kearns previously told rdnewsNOW over the explosion was natural gas-related but that the root cause was unknown.

The lone male occupant of the unit spent a night in hospital being treated for minor injuries.

The other side of the duplex suffered water damage only.
