WCBL SCHEDULE RELEASED

Sylvan Lake Gulls first game slated for June 18

Jun 7, 2021 | 5:13 PM

The Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) has confirmed the schedule for their 2021 season, kicking off on June 18 for the league’s first since 2019.

It’ll also be the first ever action for the expansion Sylvan Lake Gulls, who will play their home opener June 18 versus the Edmonton Prospects at Gulls Stadium at Pogadl Park.

“We are so excited to be taking this next step in bringing baseball back to our fans. Our governors have been working around the clock to get the schedule put together,” says WCBL President Kevin Kvame.

The Gulls have 40 regular-season games scheduled, including 20 home games.

The WCBL regular season will end on August 15 with semi-finals slated for August 16-18 and the league championship on August 20-22.

“While we’re starting the season with a limited number of fans, as per the guidance of health officials, we’re hopeful to increase capacity as the season progresses,” Kvame added. “We’ll be exercising diligence throughout the summer to adhere to all provincial guidelines as they change and are adopted.”

It was not stated what the capacity limits will be at the beginning of the season.

Although the WCBL includes teams from Saskatchewan as well, the Albertan squads will solely be facing each other this year with rosters featuring Canadian players only.
