Intake begins for Leading Forward economic incentive funding programs

Developers and property owners in Red Deer can now apply for funding from The City of Red Deer’s Leading Forward Economic Incentives Program.

The program, according to City officials, is an expansion of existing opportunities and aims to promote new development in the downtown and, ultimately, encourage vibrancy in the city’s core.

Three types of funding are available, including:

Demolition of Vacant and Derelict Properties Rebate – This existing program has been expanded from downtown only to city-wide
New Residential and Mixed Use Development Grant – Greater Downtown Area
New Residential Units in an Existing Structure Grant – Greater Downtown Area

Goals of the program are said to include investing in the future of Red Deer and creating opportunities for development.

“Our community has shown remarkable resilience through our province’s recent economic challenges and in weathering the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Ken McMullen, Acting General Manager – Development & Protective Services, in a press release. “These funding opportunities encourage development and redevelopment throughout our city, along with creating quality residential development in the downtown, which will foster an active and vibrant core.”
