Several popular Red Deer amenities are set to reopen following the announcement of Alberta’s Open for Summer relaunch plan.

The City of Red Deer says the outdoor pool at the Recreation Centre will open for Household Activity Reservations and lane swim individual reservations on Thursday, June 3. It’ll mark the first time since 2019 that the outdoor pool has been open.

The Blue Grass Sod Farm Central Spray and Play and the water feature at Kin Kanyon will open for public use tomorrow (Saturday, May 29).

Outdoor fitness classes will be offered again starting June 1 and summer day camps are open for registration now for camps beginning in July.

City officials say full-day summer camp options are being developed and more information will be released soon. Local sport organizations can once again rent outdoor fields and diamonds to host training sessions for up to 10 people, including coaches.

“We are very much looking forward to a summer full of recreation and culture opportunities, and are happy to get the ball rolling on some of them now,” said Barb McKee, Recreation Superintendent.

The outdoor pool will be available by Household Activity Reservation, or through lane swimming individual Activity Reservations only. Households may rent either the deep end, or shallow end for a one hour period.

Activity Reservations are bookable beginning on Saturday, May 29 through Look ‘n Book.

As a reminder, registration is currently open for Summer Day Camps for children aged 3-17 years, preschool programming, private swim lessons, outdoor fitness Household Activity Reservations for the ball diamonds and artificial turf at Setters Place and Great Chief Park, virtual programming including; fitness, family, and arts & culture programming, and picnic shelters are bookable for gatherings of up to 10 people.

For the most up-to-date program and activity information, and to register, visit Look ‘n Book. Customers can create their own custom Activity Guide to view the programs specific to their family at www.reddeer.ca/MyActivityGuide.

“We are happy to have had the time from the provincial update to plan for the return of recreation and culture pursuits in our city,” says McKee. “We are full of hopeful optimism as we plan for the return of further opportunities in June and July.”

More information about the impacts of phase two and three of the provincial reopening plan will be released as those milestones draw near.
