Over 50,000 Red Deerians now have one dose of vaccine

Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count has dropped by 23 to 496 on Sunday.

Recoveries in Red Deer climbed to 4,939 while the number of COVID-19 cases identified in the city since the start of the pandemic is now 5,474 an increase of 12 in the last 24 hours.

The number of deaths in Red Deer remains 39.

According to the province’s interactive vaccination map, 50,433 (47.4%* of) Red Deer residents have received at least one dose of vaccine, up 629 in the past day. The minimum one-dose total includes 8,349 (7.8%*) people who are fully vaccinated, up 185. (*based of AB Gov’t population of 106,395 for Red Deer)

Provincially, 563 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified, bringing the active caseload to 14,533, down 969 from Saturday.

With 6,944 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, the province’s positivity rate is roughly 8.1 per cent in the past day, lower than the currently weekly average of 8.91 per cent.

There are 581 Albertans currently in hospital with COVID-19, down 36 from Saturday, while 162 of those patients are in ICU, down two.

Six more deaths have also been reported, bringing the virus’ death toll in our province to 2,176. The latest COVID fatalities include:

· Date of death: May 21, 2021. A FEMALE in her 70s in CALGARY Zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: May 21, 2021. A MALE in his 70s in CALGARY Zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: May 21, 2021. A FEMALE in her 70s in the CALGARY Zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: May 21, 2021. A FEMALE in her 80s in the CALGARY Zone. The case included comorbidities.

· Date of death: May 22, 2021. A MALE in his 50s in the CALGARY Zone. There are no known comorbidities at this time.

As of May 22, 2,506,919 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Alberta. That equates to 48.2 per cent of the population with at least one dose, while 7.9 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated.

The Central Zone has 1,573 active cases as of Sunday, a drop of 54. There are 52 hospitalizations, down four, and 11 people receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital, up one. The zone has had 151 deaths, with none reported today.
