Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count drops to 703

Red Deer’s active COVID-19 case count has dropped by 57 to 703 on Sunday – a nearly 23 per cent decrease from the record high of 911 set on Saturday, May 8.

According to Alberta Health, the city’s active case rate per 100K is now 660.7.

Recoveries in Red Deer climbed by 97 on Sunday to 4,546 while the number of COVID-19 cases identified in the city since the start of the pandemic has reached 5,287 – an increase of 40.

The number of deaths in Red Deer due to COVID-19 remains unchanged at 38.

Provincially, 1,140 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in Alberta, bringing the total number of active cases in the province to 22,280 – down 713 from Saturday.

375 new variant cases were also reported, bringing the total number of active variant cases in the province to 5,264 or 23.6 per cent of all active cases.

With 11,858 tests conducted over the past 24 hours, the province’s test positivity rate is roughly 9.6 per cent.

647 Albertans are currently in hospital with COVID-19, down 39 from Saturday, while 186 of those patients are in ICU – up eight from Saturday.

Three more deaths have also been reported, bringing the virus’ death toll in our province to 2,143. The latest COVID fatalities include a male in his 80s in the Calgary zone on May 14, a male in his 70s in the Edmonton zone on May 14, and another male in his 70s in the Edmonton zone – also on May 14.

As of May 15, 2.19 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have now been administered in Alberta. That equates to 48,986 doses per 100,000 population. The number of Albertans fully immunized with two doses is now 328,414.

The Central Zone has 2,291 active cases as of Sunday, a drop of 107. There are 55 hospitalizations, down nine, and 10 people receiving intensive care for COVID-19 at Red Deer Regional Hospital, the same as Saturday. The zone has had 147 deaths, with none reported today.

Elsewhere, there are 10,515 active cases of COVID-19 in the Calgary Zone, 5,035 active cases in the Edmonton Zone, 3,309 in the North Zone, and 1,101 active cases in the South Zone. There are also 29 additional active cases in unconfirmed locations.
