No Tax Rate Increase

Red Deer County council approves 2021 tax rates

There will be no property tax rate increase for residents of Red Deer County this year.

On Tuesday, council approved second and third readings of the 2021 Tax Rate Bylaw, which largely maintains 2020’s tax rate.

“The zero increase in municipal tax rates’ shows that Red Deer County is truly a business-friendly environment,” remarked Mayor Jim Wood, in a press release. “By holding the line on taxes, we are encouraging new growth in all of our sectors.”

Notwithstanding the new Provincial Police Services Agreement that came into effect on April 1, 2020, County officials say the Bylaw reduces the penalty rate from 6 per cent to 4 per cent for the 2021 taxation year and continues to hold over the tax rate from 2020.
