Street sweepers rolling onto residential streets

The spring cleaning of Red Deer’s city streets is expected to ramp up later this month.

According to City officials, residential street sweeping will begin on April 25, as crews will complete sweeping medians and boulevards throughout the city on April 22. Crews are anticipated to sweep the downtown area on May 2.

Parks crews will also be out sweeping sidewalks and trails throughout the city. Pedestrians and motorists are asked to be cautious around street and sidewalk sweeping equipment by staying at least three car lengths away to avoid injury or damage from flying debris.

As always, City officials are asking residents to help by moving their cars off the roads before crews come in.

“We know there are many Red Deerians still working from home. This means there will be more cars on the streets, when typically there would be less,” said Greg Sikora, Parks and Public Works Manager, in a press release. “In order for sweepers to get all debris off the street, we need those vehicles moved to off-street parking. Vehicles parked on the street will be ticketed and towed to an adjacent road.”
