Drayton Valley man arrested near Onoway with significant amount of drugs

A Drayton Valley man is facing several charges following his arrest earlier this week.

Parkland RCMP say it was just after 3 a.m. on April 8 (Thursday) when they were responding to a report of suspicious vehicles parked on a rural private driveway near Onoway, about 65 km northwest of Edmonton.

Members identified and arrested both Jeffery Russell, 37, of Drayton Valley and a 34-year-old female from Seba Beach.

Initially, the woman provided a false name and was subsequently charged with obstructing justice. Her first appearance in court is June 2 though she can’t be named as court documents are still being processed.

Russell has prior charges involving weapons and is not to have them in his possession. He was found, police say, in possession of a weapon and was detained for failing to comply with this condition. He also allegedly had in his possession a substantial amount of controlled substances, which police describe as approximately 10,000 street doses of methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine and LSD.

Russell was held for a judicial interim hearing and was released. His first appearance is April 28 at Stony Plain Provincial Court.

Parkland RCMP encourage residents to continue to call in suspicious vehicles and persons.
