Alberta nearing 8,000 active COVID-19 cases, Red Deer sees slight dip

The number of active cases of COVID-19 in Alberta continues to rise and is nearing the 8,000-mark.

Alberta reported another 576 cases on Tuesday out of 8,078 test results for a positivity rate of 7.1 per cent.

There are now 7,975 active cases in the province with variants making up nearly 30 per cent (2,376).

Four additional deaths attributed to COVID-19 were reported to Alberta Health in the last 24 hours to bring the province’s total to 1,987. The latest deaths were in the Calgary, North and Edmonton (2) zones.

A total of 620,009 vaccine doses have been administered in the province with 99,378 people now fully vaccinated with two doses.

The number of people in Alberta in hospital due to COVID-19 as of Tuesday sits at 301. That includes 58 people in intensive care.

Active COVID-19 cases in Red Deer took a dip on Tuesday, going from 210 to 197.

Recoveries are up 13 to 2,874 as total COVID-19 cases attributed to Red Deer remained unchanged at 3,105, as has the number of COVID-19 deaths in the city (34).

The Central Zone as a whole has 693 active cases as of Tuesday, with 33 people in hospital, including four in the ICU at Red Deer Regional Hospital. The zone has had 122 deaths attributed to COVID-19.
