25 Alberta communities receive asset management funding

The Town of Blackfalds, Town of Innisfail and Lacombe County are three of 25 communities receiving federal funding to help boost asset management.

The Government of Canada is investing $1.15 million in the 25 new projects across Alberta through the Municipal Asset Management Program (MAMP). This is delivered by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities on behalf of the federal government.

The program aims to strengthen local infrastructure planning and decision-making by increasing local asset management capacity through investments in activities like asset management training, technology & software enhancements, and information sharing.

Lacombe County is getting $50,000 for an asset management strategy and road map project

Blackfalds is getting $38,435 for an asset management program initiative.

Innisfail will see $50,000 for an asset management strategy and inventory enhancement.

The Town of Bowden is getting $40,000 and the village of Clive $50,000.

“The COVID-19 health crisis has reinforced the importance of infrastructure that supports safe, sustainable and healthy communities. Everything from ensuring communities have potable water to internet access to park spaces requires good planning,” said Jim Carr, Minister and Special Representative for the Prairies, on behalf of Minister of Infrastructure and Communities Catherine McKenna.

“The 25 projects announced today ensure Alberta municipalities have the tools and technology necessary to make well-informed decisions for the long term. Canada’s infrastructure plan is resulting in thousands of projects, creating jobs across the country and building stronger communities.”
