protesters call on province to lift restrictions

“Open Alberta for Business” convoy rolls into Red Deer

Dozens of people from across the province braved the frigid conditions in Red Deer on holiday Monday to call on the provincial government to lift public health measures related to COVID-19.

Organizers of the “Open Alberta for Business Convoy” encouraged people from Calgary, Edmonton and all points in between to meet in Red Deer to help send a message to the province to lift restrictions and fully reopen the economy.

“We’ve had just about enough,” organizer Glen Carritt said during a speech at Monday’s event. “We want to get our businesses back open, we want to get our kids playing, we want churches open. We want to get back to normal.”

The province is underway with a phased approach to re-opening that’s based on the number of COVID-19 hospitalizations. Step 1 which began Feb. 8 allowed for limited sit-down dining and one-on-one training at gyms and fitness facilities.
